On July 14, 1819 Thomas Edwards of Keene, NH, posted an notice in the New Hampshire Sentinel newspaper. “Notice. Left the Service of the Subscriber without his knowledge or consent, on the night of the tenth of June last, a black boy by the name of WILLIAM CRANSEL CASEY, an indented apprentice– All persons are forbid harboring or trusting him on my account, as I will pay no debts that he may contract. THOMAS EDWARDS. July 14, 1819. Keene.”
No further information on Casey has been discovered to date (2026). Thomas Edwards and his son Thomas M. Edwards, however, were known enslavers in Keene.
